GrahamSpencer of Rockford, Illinois partnered with non-profit Transform Rockford to name, brand and launch the 1834 Alliance of Transformational Dreamers & Doers, an all-new civic organization created to document the leadership and partnerships behind the Rockford Region’s most transformational community achievements. The work spanned nearly two years and culminated in a joyous public event on June 4, 2026 that drew more than 200 community leaders while generating over 2.4 million impressions.

Project: 1834 Alliance of Transformational Dreamers & Doers
Client: Transform Rockford
Inaugural Event: June 4, 2026—Nordlof Center and Rockford Public Library terrace (Rockford, IL)
Overview: Working alongside Transform Rockford’s leadership and a broad coalition of civic, business and cultural leaders, GrahamSpencer helped shape nearly every public-facing aspect of the Alliance–from research, strategy and naming to identity, website, documentary films, communications and the inaugural Honors & Celebration. The work spanned nearly two years and culminated in an inspirational public event that drew more than 200 current and future community leaders and generated more than 2.4 million campaign impressions.
Transforming Conviction into Trust
When Transform Rockford brought GrahamSpencer into the conversation, the 1834 Alliance existed only as an inspirational concept. There was no name. No identity. No website. No films. No public presence.
What did exist was a conviction: that the Rockford Region’s greatest transformation stories deserved to be understood, preserved and broadly shared.
Building a civic institution is different from launching a business or promoting an event. People don’t just need to notice it. They need to trust it. Every decision—from the organization’s name to its visual identity and voice—had to help the Alliance earn that trust.

From Research to Results
GrahamSpencer worked alongside Transform Rockford leaders LoRayne Logan, Michael Schablaske, Bobbie Holzwarth and Ron Clewer, along with a broad coalition of civic, business and cultural leaders, to develop nearly every public-facing element of the Alliance.
Our work encompassed research, brand strategy, organization naming, positioning and messaging architecture, visual identity design, website strategy, information architecture, user experience and design, copywriting, content development, documentary film production, photography, public relations, social media, digital advertising and event production of the Alliance’s inaugural Honors & Celebration.
From the beginning, our goal was to build an integrated storytelling ecosystem in which every piece reinforced the next. Documentary interviews became articles. Articles became social content. Social content brought people to the website. The website preserved the stories, shared the lessons and continually introduced new people, projects and partnerships. By creating a connected body of humanistic original content, the Alliance established a digital presence designed to remain discoverable by both traditional search and AI-powered discovery long after the inaugural campaign ended.

A Different Kind of Organization
Most organizations begin with a mission statement. The 1834 Alliance began with a question: how has the Rockford Region managed to accomplish extraordinary things?
Not just what happened, but how. How did unlikely partnerships form? What courageous decisions changed our region’s future? And, what can today’s leaders learn from the dreamers and doers who came before them?
Those questions shaped every aspect of the Alliance, from its website and documentary films to its Honors & Celebration program and the integrated storytelling strategy that connects them.
Launching the Alliance
On June 4, 2026, more than 200 community leaders gathered at Rockford’s Nordlof Center and later on the Rockford Public Library terrace for the Alliance’s inaugural Honors & Celebration—its first public, in-person introduction to the community.
The evening premiered two original documentary films and presented the Alliance’s first two honors. The inaugural Transformers Honor went to the transformation of Downtown Rockford from 1980 to 2026, memorialized in a documentary film. The inaugural Ignitors Honor went to Rockford Promise, the region’s location-based scholarship program, told through a companion documentary.
The full evening remains available via livestream.

Built to Last. A Foundation for Future Transformation.
Few assignments invite an agency to help create an institution designed to keep strengthening a community long after the initial work is complete. We are deeply grateful to Transform Rockford for the opportunity to help build the foundation of the 1834 Alliance.
And, in the end, the real measure of the Alliance’s success won’t be the stories it preserves. It will be the people, partnerships and transformations those stories continue to inspire.

If your organization is ready to create brand infrastructure capable of carrying meaning for decades, we would welcome a conversation.
